Roundtable with Policy Makers on Existing Framework for Promoting Energy and Resource Efficiency

An enabling policy environment is the key to promote energy and resource (E&RE) efficiency in the industry. Various policy makers have commenced activities to enhance E&RE in their area of responsibility, and government across the world combine different policy instruments in the form of Regulatory, Economic, Educational, Cooperation and Informational Instruments to address the challenges of E&RE.

As part of the policy component of the SCI-Pak project, a review of international, regional, and national policies for the promotion of sustainable production was conducted. A half day seminar was held on February 22, 2012 at Serena Hotel Islamabad to brief Pakistani policy makers on the key findings of the policy review and to develop an agenda for the succeeding Policy Dialogue among different stakeholders. The participants of the seminar were the representatives from Ministry of Industries & Production, Ministry of Natural Disaster Management (ex. Ministry of Environment), The Ministry of Water and Power, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Textile, Planning Commission of Pakistan, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, ENERCON (National Energy Conservation Centre), SMEDA (Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority), AEDB (Alternative Energy Development Board) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).

The seminar served as a forum of different policy making representatives to share knowledge and experience through discussions. Following professionals from CPI and IHT teams acted as the resource persons in the seminar and shared their findings.
